A cruise operation will also be starting in Malmö during 2013. Traffic this year is expected to comprise 40,000 passengers and 7,000 crew.
As a part of the venture, CMP and Malmö City Council are together creating a new cruise terminal in Frihamnen in Malmö. A former warehouse is being converted to be used for passenger service, primarily in connection with checking in and out, and as a waiting room. In addition, separate areas are being created for visiting cruise ship crews.
The terminal building comprises around 1,000 square metres, with 400 seats in the first stage. Malmö City Council will also offer tourist information in the terminal. Parking areas for buses and taxis will be established in connection with the building. In addition, a new pedestrian path is being put in to make it easy for passengers to move between the terminal and the city centre. The cruise terminal in Malmö will be opened in May 2013.
